Do you know that feeling when you unbox a new kit, only to realize that to run it properly you need to immediately spend extra money on a slipper clutch, universal shafts, and aluminum mounts? The new 1/10 scale Tamiya DN-01 SR (Special Racing) aims to save you from exactly that. It's not a complete revolution, but it's a very smart move from Tamiya.
What's new in the SR Version?
The DN-01 chassis is a well-known base in the 2WD buggy world: rear-wheel drive, clean layout, and endless customization options. The SR version sits right between the entry-level kit and a fully hopped-up machine. Tamiya selected some of the most popular and useful hop-ups and included them right in the box.
- Slipper Clutch Set for better traction and drivetrain protection
- Aluminum front and rear suspension mounts
- Aluminum motor plate for high durability and heat dissipation
- Rear Assembly Universal Shafts for smoother power delivery
- Aluminum rear hex hubs
Technical Specifications
The total length of the assembled model is 382 mm. It comes with white dish wheels and the polycarbonate body and rear wing of the TRF201. Keep in mind that as a pure assembly kit, all electronics (servo, receiver, ESC, battery) and the 540-sized motor are sold separately.
Who is it for?
The DN-01 SR is perfect for hobbyists looking for a solid 2WD electric buggy base without having to buy dozens of optional parts right away. It eliminates initial mechanical bottlenecks, leaving the builder to focus on assembly and electronic setup. Retail price in Japan is 26,400 Yen (approx. 165 USD before tax).
