Tamiya 58762 Clod Buster 2026: the monster truck that takes the space back

If one Tamiya model meant “monster truck” for a generation, it is the Clod Buster. Not a race buggy, not an on-road touring car: a lifted pickup, huge tires, American fairground presence. It arrived in 1987 as item 58065, in the years when real monster trucks crushed cars under giant wheels. Tamiya answered that fashion with a 1/10 kit that, from a distance, could not be mistaken for anything else.

2026 is not catalog nostalgia. Item 58762 returns with a red polystyrene body like 58065, an updated front grille, LED provision and extra stickers of the cowboy-hat mascot. The chassis remains Super Clod Buster 4WD and 4WS: two 540 motors, TEU-201BK ESC in the box, differentials, front and rear steering in opposite directions with a single servo. Length 480 mm, width 380 mm, height 340 mm, 165 mm diameter / 110 mm wide semi-pneumatic tires, 55 mm ground clearance. Almost four kilograms without radio. This is not a stopwatch model. It is an object that takes up space on purpose.

Tamiyablog flagged the debut around the August 2026 IPMS/USA National Convention in Indiana. That fits: IPMS is historically a static-modeling house, and bringing a nearly four-kilo RC truck there is a way of saying Tamiya monster trucks belong to hobby history, not only the toy shelf. 58762 is not here to win an indoor heat. It is here for people who recognize that silhouette and want it back on the bench, built to today’s standards.

The tires hold past and present together. The 165 mm chevron tread is meant to be read from across the room, like real monster trucks. Tamiya did not invent a new Clod Buster: it kept the silhouette, updated the grille and lights, left the plated bumpers and grille, the hood supercharger, the roll bar with five lamps. Anyone who built 58065 in the 1980s will find the lines. Anyone arriving now gets a kit with ESC included and a presence that still looks bigger in photos than on paper.

The Clod Buster return works if you treat it as what it is: a piece of RC history Tamiya chose to put back into circulation, not a press-release novelty. The 2026 box still speaks the visual language of the original. The rest, as always with these models, is done by whoever builds it and whoever remembers it.
